The Child

The 3-6 year old child is an avid explorer and wants to know everything. They display what Dr. Maria Montessori referred to as the “absorbent mind” – an extraordinary, “sponge-like” capacity to absorb information from their surroundings. They are undergoing rapid physical and psychological growth and blossom with love, warmth, and acceptance. Through purposeful activities, the preschool and kindergarten age child develops the ability to grow and think reflectively, to form positive relationships with others, and to appreciate nature and the world.

The Environment

The Preschool/Kindergarten environment is meticulously prepared to offer a rich array of learning experiences, space to grow in independence, and opportunities to build early social skills. On any given day, visitors will observe a quiet, peaceful environment filled with a pleasant hum of activity. Classrooms are beautiful and spacious, enticing the children to work and allowing for freedom of movement. Each room contains the full sequence of specially designed Montessori materials to interest and motivate the child, developing skills of observation, problem solving, and critical thinking.

The Teacher

Our preschool/kindergarten teachers are warm and supportive. They meticulously prepare the learning environment and observe and assist each child according to their individual needs and interests. They are trained to recognize periods of readiness and to demonstrate the correct use of the materials. They protect the child’s integrity and allow the child to have freedom of choice as appropriate to their level of development. All of our lead teachers are certified through the American Montessori Society or another major Montessori organization.
