The Child

The child ages 18 months-3 years thrives in a warm, nurturing environment as they develop a sense of security and independence away from the home. From birth to 3 years is the period the personality is developed. During this formative age, a child learns more than in any other period. This is the formative period for personality, trust, thinking, problem solving, and separation.

The Environment

The Toddler environment is warm, caring, comfortable, and safe, providing manipulative activities supportive of the developmental needs of each individual child. The daily schedule provides an orderly routine (work cycle, snack time, circle time, play time, etc.) while remaining flexible to the interests of the children. Gross and fine motor development, social skills, refinement of the senses, and early language and math skills are practiced. Emphasis is on the process of learning.

The Teacher

Our toddler teachers invite their young students into the world of learning with love and warmth. They offer each student time – time to do things and the space to do them – time to take off shoes, time to watch the class’ pet fish, time to sift sand through their fingers. They give each student space to explore and exercise their muscles. They model a love for learning by taking joy in everything they do. They meticulously prepare the environment to offer a rich array of early learning experiences, observing and assisting the child according to their individual needs and interests. All of our lead teachers are certified through the American Montessori Society or another major Montessori organization.
